The confusion among job aspirants regarding the eligibility to apply for the Assistant Upazila/Thana Education Officer (ATEO) position at the Directorate of Primary Education under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has finally been clarified. Recruitment Rules-2023 of the Department of Primary Teachers has clearly explained the recruitment issues for the post of ATO.
Last Wednesday, the new recruitment rules of the Directorate of Primary Education-2023 were published in the form of a gazette. The gazette has mentioned the percentage quota of government primary school teachers and the years of experience required to apply for ATEO posts.

According to the new recruitment rules, 80 percent of Assistant Upazila/Thana Education Officer posts will be recruited by government primary school teachers. The remaining 20 percent of posts are for general candidates.
The age of government primary school teachers is relax able up to 45 years for applying for ATEO posts. Apart from this, to apply for this post, primary assistant teachers should have at least 10 years of service experience and head teachers should have at least three years of service experience.
Age 30 years for general candidates to apply for the post of Assistant Upazila/ Police Station Education Officer. Must possess Bachelor’s (Honor’s) Degree or Post Graduate Degree with a CGPA of four years duration from a recognized University with second class or equivalent. Apart from this, if there is no qualified candidate for the reserved post for departmental candidates, then the appointment will be made for general candidates. On June 26, the Public Service Commission (PSC) published a notification for the appointment of 159 Assistant Upazila/Thana Education Officers (ATEO). But at that time some questions arose among the job seekers in applying for this post. In particular, there was confusion over whether new teachers joining the primary could apply.
It was said before that departmental candidates can apply for the post of Assistant Upazila/ Police Station Education Officer. A departmental candidate means any teacher in a government primary school. Departmental candidates can apply even if their age is 45 years.
Application fee of Tk 500 should be deposited within 72 hours of application through Teletalk prepaid number.
Candidates have to complete the online registration process and fee submission by filling the application form prescribed by the Commission (BPSC Form-5A) on Tele talk website or Bangladesh Public Works Commission website. The post of Assistant Upazila/ Police Station Education Officer is of 10th grade. If appointed to this position, the salary scale will be Tk 16,000-38,640.
The Public Service Commission (PSC) has published a notification for the post of Assistant Upazila/Thana Education Officer of the Department of Primary Education.
The notification said that those interested can apply for 159 posts till 31 July 2023.

It was said before Information officer of the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman was contacted in this regard. He said, according to the PSC circular, only teachers working in government primary schools will get the opportunity to apply for the post of ETO. Newly joined assistant teachers can also apply. General candidates do not have that opportunity. Maximum age limit for application is 45 years.
